Shoulder Pain: Rotator Cuff Injuries and Treatment

Rotator cuff injuries are common, especially among athletes and people with physically demanding jobs. The rotator cuff can wear down as a result of repeated motion, which can cause injury to the shoulder.

Many patients at Active Recovery Boston come into our office concerned they are experiencing a rotator cuff injury. Usually, a patient has Googled their shoulder pain symptoms or has been told by another doctor they may have a rotator cuff tear.

People often visualize a notch, cliff or physical cuff within their shoulder that causes pain, but in reality, the rotator cuff refers to a series of four main muscles surrounding the shoulder. They include the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, subscapularis, and teres minor. Each of these muscles serves a different purpose in the movement of the shoulder, so it is important to know which one(s) cause pain in order to create a proper treatment plan.

Our doctors specialize in movement tests which assess which shoulder muscles may be injured, so we can truly understand and treat the source of your shoulder pain.

Active Recovery Boston specializes in the treatment of shoulder pain and rotator cuff injury treatment. For more information or to book a consultation at our offices in Boston, Danvers or Franklin, call us at 617-423-3370.
